Sir Peter will deliver a keynote lecture which explores current political issues and trends, with particular reference to questions of democracy and populism at a local, national and global level.
Peter first won the parliamentary seat of Eltham in June 1975. He held a number of roles during Margaret Thatcher’s premiership, including Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Northern Ireland Office. In the 1997 general election, Peter was elected Member of Parliament for Worthing West and was appointed to serve on the Select Committee on Standards and Privileges. In 2011 Peter was knighted for Public Service.
He has been Chairman of the Church of England Children's Society and a trustee of Christian Aid. He founded Family Forum. He has been a member of the Child Poverty Action Group. His special interests include family policy and foreign relations.
