Blessing of Palms, Singing of the Passion and Eucharist for Palm Sunday sung by the Great Choir
Today we remember how crowds of people waving palm branches welcomed Jesus as king as he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, only days before he was arrested. Palm crosses will be distributed at all the services today.
The service begins near the Royal Garrison Church. Bring a branch or some greenery from home to wave as we process to the Cathedral where the service continues. The Choir sings the Passion, the account of Jesus’ arrest, trial and death. This year the Passion setting is by John Sanders from the Gospel according to Saint Mark, and the Communion setting is David Price’s Missa Orbis factor (for Choir, Organ and Strings).
The Cathedral Choir sings canticles by Sumsion and Finzi’s Lo, the full final sacrifice.
Our preacher, the Dean, begins his Holy Week addresses:
"Can time be healed?" - drawing in particular on poems by T.S. Eliot.
