The Divine Dance - Tango at the Cathedral

A day to discover and celebrate the Argentine tango and how it connects to our spirituality. As well as being a joy to dance, the tango can reveal insights about our connection to the divine in and around us.

Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced dancer, this is an opportunity to dance the tango in a beautiful setting and explore how it links to our spiritual side.

In between sample the delights of the waterfront restaurants and cafes in Old Portsmouth and Gunwharf Quays for lunch or dinner.


10:30am–12:00pm: ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS’ LESSON

Come and discover the delights of the Argentine tango for yourself. This 90-minute taster class will introduce you to the magic of the dance.

No previous experience necessary. No need to book with a partner. Come as you are!

2:30pm–4:00pm: THE SPIRITUALITY OF THE TANGO

Join us for a reflective workshop exploring how dancing the tango connects us to our spiritual side and echoes our relationship to the divine.

Exploring aspects including the embrace, connection, presence, collaboration, creativity and much more we will see what they teach us about our own spirituality and our relationship to God.

Suitable for people of all faiths and none, and for tango dancers and non-dancers. If you don’t relate to the word ‘God’, substitute a word you prefer – universe, energy, higher force etc.

7:30pm-11:30pm: MILONGA IN THE NAVE (Sold out - join wait list below)

Come and dance in this beautiful space! The nave will be transformed into a tango salon. Dance the night away in this atmospheric and sacred setting.

For experienced tango dancers. There will also be limited places for non-dancers interested to watch and learn what happens at a milonga.

Make a day of it! Come for the beginners’ class and stay for the afternoon workshop, or come for the afternoon and stay on for the evening milonga.

Please note: This event will take place on a smooth stone floor, you may wish to bring suitable footwear for this type of surface.
